Way to GO, Cougars! Huge congratulations are in order for the Sumner-Fredericksburg High School Speech Department! We are thrilled to announce that both our Choral Reading and Musical Theatre groups have received the highest honor in Iowa high school speech: All-State Nominations to Perform!
Being selected to perform at the All-State Festival means these students are among the "best of the best" in the entire state. Their hard work and late-night (and early morning) rehearsals paid off!

"Jamie has distinguished herself as a leader and role model for her teammates and younger athletes. She is a strong, determined, and resilient competitor who carries herself with confidence, as she consistently sets the standard for what it means to compete with grit and integrity. Her success is a direct reflection of her character and commitment, and her impact is felt far beyond the mat. This season, Jaime placed 7th at the state level, earned Regional and Conference Championships, and reached career milestones of over 100 wins and 100 pins." - Coach Jones
"Kruise delivered an outstanding performance this past week at AGWSR. He finished the night with 26 points and 15 rebounds along with big shots and key free throws. He has an ability to score in bunches, and when he gets rolling, he gives our team a huge spark. Kruise is willing to take on challenges and fulfill different roles for the Cougars. He is a player that opponents must account for every possession." - Coach Quigley

"Sophomore wrestler Linkan Suckow has found success on and off the mat for the Cougars. Linkan is an honor student with a strong work ethic and positive attitude. He is respected by his peers for his commitment to his craft and his support of teammates. This season, Linkan has tournament titles from the DeLeon Invitational and the Monticello tournament and he is currently 21-8 on the season with two of his wins coming over state ranked wrestlers." -Coach Meyer

Our High School Speech students performed at District Speech at Cedar Falls High School on Saturday. All six groups had outstanding performances! Congratulations to Choral Reading, Musical Theater, Solo Mime and Improv for scoring a 1 and moving on to State competition on Feb. 7.
Mark your calendars, our bowling meet against Forest City has been rescheduled for January 27th.
It will also be Senior Night for SFHS! Come out and help us celebrate our seniors as they take to the lanes for their final home meet.

Gavin Trask put together a 30-point performance against Oelwein while averaging 20 points,13 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game this week. "Gavin is a dominant force inside and in one of the most difficult interior match-up's in our conference, opposing teams have to game plan specifically for him every night. His physicality and size gives us a huge impact on both ends of the court." - Coach Quigley
Kaydi Cowell put together a phenomenal week and capped it off with a tournament win this past weekend. She dropped a weight class and knocked off a returning state place finisher, and now sits at 23–9 on the season with 15 pins. She had an outstanding performance and continues her growth on the mat." - Coach Jones
