Bank Iowa Student-Athletes of the Week: Sydney Zupke and Paxton Frost.

“Sydney is a consistent and powerful runner for Cougar XC this season. She’s a natural leader on and off the course, and sets the standard with her work ethic, determination, and commitment. Sydney has made a tremendous leap since last season, pushing herself and encouraging her teammates to step outside their comfort zones and competing with grit and determination. She has consistently medaled in all three meets so far this year and is a huge asset to our team’s success. We are excited to see how far her drive and leadership will take her, the sky's the limit!” - Coach Jones

“Paxton has been a key contributor for the Cougar football on offense, defense, and special teams. He is relentless with his effort and has a strong work ethic. This past week, Paxton stepped into a new position and embraced the challenge of learning and growing in his role. Paxton has an ability to adapt, improve, and put the team’s needs first which has made him a dependable and versatile player for the Cougars. Paxton’s commitment and determination make him an important part of Cougar football.” -Coach Coyle

Cougar Nation, our Friday night Football dress theme is now: Yellow Out for Trypp. We are asking everyone to wear yellow in support of Sumner-Fredericksburg Class of 2025 graduate, Trypp Roszell. Trypp was recently diagnosed with Ewing carcinoma, and we want him and his family to know that our entire community supports and stands with them.

We have an opportunity to show the strength of our Cougar family on Sept. 12th. CBF will also be holding a "Fill the Helmet" cash donation at the game. All proceeds will go directly to Trypp and his family to help with medical expenses.

Bank Iowa Student Athlete of the Week: Alexa Buhman & Jack Leete “Alexa consistently demonstrates what it means to be a student athlete. On the court, she always brings energy, leadership, and determination; whether it is through her hustle in practice, focus during games, or her always encouraging her teammates. She is a key contributor to our volleyball program and is an agile athlete that is willing to do what she needs for the team. Alexa leads our team in assists and is second in kills for the season so far. We are excited to see how her leadership and hard work continue to shape our season.” -Coach Nuss “Jack has displayed tremendous heart and relentless work ethic throughout the season. In the game against Denver, his impact was felt by recovering three fumbles and recording numerous tackles. He puts forth maximum effort and determination day in and day out, and we look forward to his continued leadership as the season progresses.” -Coach Coyle

Sumner-Fredericksburg Student-Athletes of the Week: Keeley Meyer & Grayden Meyer

Keeley Meyer has been a dedicated member of the Cougar football cheer team for the past three years. Over that time, she has grown into a confident and consistent leader. Keeley leads with patience and takes the initiative to help her peers and younger middle school cheerleaders. Her favorite saying is “kindness” which she models it at practices and on the sidelines. Keeley is always willing to step up and do what’s needed for Cougar Cheer. - Coach Volker

Grayden Meyer is the definition of quiet leadership. Humble, hardworking, and focused, he leads by example and shows relentless effort and a team-first attitude. His dedication shows up everyday for Cougar Cross Country. Grayden is the kind of athlete every program values, steady, reliable, and humble. He gets the job done without complaint and gives 100% in everything he’s asked to do. - Coach Jones

Last week highlighted what it means to be a Cougar. Our students gave their best in every activity, and we’re proud of their effort and accomplishments. Cross Country competed and represented SFHS with pride. The varsity girls team secured 2nd while also having three individuals earn a top 10 spots! Football took the field Friday night and delivered hard fought and exciting game for our community. The Band filled the air with music and pride. Volleyball battled hard, showing teamwork and growth every match earning victories along the way. Cheer kept our school spirit high Friday night and our fans energized. Thank you to Emily Koch Photography and Taunya Robertson for the photos.
