Bank Iowa Student-Athletes of the Week: Kylee Krueger & Jace Brinkman
"Kylee, a junior and a three year varsity golfer, had a great opening performance at South Hardin this past week posting a meet low score of 45 and earning medalist honors. She was a member of both the 2024 State Champion and 2025 3rd place teams and brings a lot of experience to the team. Kylee brings a lot of positivity and leadership to the team, a good attitude and is very supportive of her teammates." -Coach Krueger
"Jace had a great night at the Independence Relays. He anchored the Sprint Medley Relay to a 3rd Place finish, won gold in the 400 Meters while also setting a meet record with a time of 52.07. Jace also placed 2nd in the 200. He is an honor roll student and was recently inducted into the National Honor Society. Jace also competes in football, basketball and baseball." -Coach Leete

Due to forecasted temperatures, the Ed-Co Boys Track Meet scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled.
The Girls Meet at Postville is still scheduled as planned for tomorrow.

Bank Iowa Student-Athletes of the Week: Aratz Gonzalez- Herreros & Sydney Zupke
"Aratz, a foreign exchange student from Spain living with the host family of Trey and Holly Meyers, is a new addition to the Cougar Track and Field. He is a mid distance runner for the Cougars and experienced his first competition of his high school career at the Frostbite Invitational where he ran the 800 meters and anchored the Distance Medley Relay. Aratz is an Honor Roll student and also competes in soccer back home in Spain." - Coach Leete
"Sydney is off to a great sophomore track season for the Cougars. At the Frostbite Invitational she ran the anchor of the 1st Place Sprint Medley Relay and the opening leg of 1st Place 4X400 relay. She also placed 3rd in the 800 meters. Sydney is a dedicated participant in the Cougar Strength and Conditioning program and also competes in cross country, basketball, and softball. She is an Honor Roll student and a member of the National Honor Society." - Coach Leete

Shout out to Michaela Sorenson, who performed her poem, "Talented and Gifted " at All-State Speech at UNI on Monday. The critic's comments praised her passionate and dynamic delivery. She represented Sumner- Fredericksburg in a powerful way. Well done, MJ!

"Kate is a Senior that has always represented the Cougars with pride over her career. She has demonstrated positive leadership in our first couple weeks of practice and brings a lot of postseason experience to our team. "Shane started off his sophomore track and field season at the Dickinson Relays with a personal best in the shot put. He has committed himself to becoming a better athlete through practice and hard work in the weight room. Shane also puts in extra work after practice and is very coachable. He is an honor roll student that also participates in football." - Coach Leete
"Callie is back on the track after being sidelined due to injury. She is a positive leader who pushes herself and others to become better. Callie works hard in practice and we look forward to what she can do on the track this season. Callie is also an honor roll student, a member of National Honor Society, and participates in Volleyball." - Coach Leete

Huge congratulations to Michaela Sorenson on being nominated to perform her original poetry piece, “Talented and Gifted,” at the IHSSA All- State Festival on March 30 at UNI! This event recognizes the best of the best in Iowa high school speech, and being chosen to share an original work on that stage is an incredible achievement. Way to go Michaela!

Kale opened up his sophomore track and field season with a personal best time of 24.39 in the 200 Meters at the Dickinson Relays. He is a great teammate, extremely coachable, and works hard at practice. Kale is a dedicated participant at morning Strength and Conditioning sessions, a multi-sport athlete that competes in football and baseball at SFHS. He is also a Honor Roll student and was recently selected for induction into the National Honor Society.
Jaci opened her junior season by competing in the 1500 Meters at the Dickinson Relays and has become a leader on the Girls Track and Field team. She is a positive influence on her teammates by always working hard in practice and offering encouragement to others. Jaci has become a dedicated participant at morning Strength and Conditioning sessions and also competes in Cross Country. She is an Honor Roll student and recently selected for induction into the National Honor Society.

Seven students represented SFHS at the IHSSA State Speech Saturday at Maquoketa Valley High School. They performed 9 pieces that ranged from spooky and creepy to funny, musical, and emotional. In the end, 7 of those performances earned Division I ratings! Great work by these students and a proud day for our speech team!
