Today three of our Sumner-Fredericksburg high school students participated in the 'LooCon IT Day at the Waterloo Career Center. Over 230 students participated in the event representing 29 schools. The expert panel included six of the best Cyber professionals in Iowa! Nick Dideriksen from VGM Forbin, Todd Burzynski from UnityPoint, Samantha Dahlby from newbo.co, Trevor Kems an Iowa professional pen-tester, Tyler Coan from First Security Bank, and Brandon Blankenship from Pro-Circular. The panel spoke about a variety of topics and then answered questions from the students. In addition, Hawkeye Community College, Iowa State University, Indian Hills College, DMACC, UNI, and Kirkwood College all spoke to the students about their IT programs. At the end of the day, the students competed in teams of 3-5 in a "Capture the Flag" event with the top 3 teams receiving prizes at the end. Sumner-Fredericksburg, with the addition of two Riceville students, placed 7th overall. Congratulations, Tyson Rochford, Mason Britt, and Hunter Nelson!!

A HUGE thank you to The Women of Fredericksburg for donating the prize bags for our Reading is Fun Month. Students who brought back the required number of reading slips received this special prize today. The Women of Fredericksburg always put together AWESOME prize bags, and the FES staff appreciates their support. We are so lucky to have this group in our community! We cannot thank you enough!
