As the school year draws to a close, it is our privilege to name 19 members of the Class of 2024 as recipients of the President's Award for Educational Excellence. This prestigious academic recognition takes the following criteria into consideration: a minimum 3.5 grade point average; highly proficient test scores on state-wide, standardized assessments; and recommendations from faculty, coaches, and staff for outstanding contributions to the school as a whole. We are honored to congratulate the following students who received this recognition: Joseph Blasen, Anna Egan, Isabelle Elliott, Jesse Jones, Payton Leete, Jana Meyer, Layla Mohlis, Allison Newlon, Claire Rucker, Alivia Seehase, Carsyn Seehase, Kenzlei Steffen, Caden Trainor, Hillary Trainor, Myla Trask, Davis Van Sickle, Adalyn Westendorf, Emersen Warnke, Colton Zupke.
On Friday, May 3rd, the 5th grade class attended the Norman Borlaug Spring Inspire Day in Cresco. The students learned about a wide range of science, history, and global topics while infusing Norman Borlaug's story and legacy. The Iowa Corn Biofuels Mobile Education Trailer was also there to talk about corn and soybeans and their many uses. A favorite was their Outreach Food Packaging where all the 5th graders were able to package food for children in Tanzania, Africa. What a neat opportunity these students experienced!

Happy School Nurse Appreciation Day,
Now give us a minute, we have something to say.
Ms. Luebbers travels to each school,
When handling difficult issues, she always keeps her cool.
Ms. Julie can’t wait for her to get over here,
Dealing with a bloody nose is a real fear.
If you have a fever and are feeling hot,
Ms. Luebbers will let you lie on her cot.
If you fall and need an ice pack,
Don’t worry, Ms. Luebbers has your back.
But if you tell your teacher you have a tummy ache,
Ms. Luebbers will make sure it isn’t fake.
If you are really sick, she will give your parents a call,
So relax and don’t bawl.
Her son taught at FES, and he was ‘da bomb,
So we know she is also a good mom.
She will take care of your kids too,
But this is something most of you already knew.
When things go from bad to worse,
We are so thankful to have Ms. Luebbers, the nurse!

Today during Encore, Durant Elementary celebrated Super Cougars, birthdays, and students who won a library award for checking out the most books this year! They also talked about Citizenship and being a good teammate! Teachers and students competed in scooter and hula hoop races with their Cougar Dens and then wrapped up the assembly with pillar review!

FES had their Cougar Way Assembly yesterday. In the skit, the Wild Thing was on Trial to decide if we should adopt it into our Cougar Family or release it into the wild far away from Cougar Country. Lawyer Hammond called up witnesses to recap how we tried to teach the Wild Thing the Cougar Way, but it still can't be trusted. At the end, Mrs. Boltz read a poem about the Cougar Way, and the Wild Thing changed and revealed its Cougar Heart. We also celebrated April and July Birthdays as well as recognized Star Cougars. Mrs. Throckmorton gave out certificates to the students in each grade who checked out the most books from the library this year.
