8th graders in Mrs. Rucker's 1st quarter Robotics class ended their course with a race. A lot of innovative design, smart building and advanced coding went into this race. The Mickey Mouse racer was our winner!

SFMS 6th and 7th grade student council members attended a Leadership Summit at Upper Iowa today. They heard from local experts, did group activities, and attended workshops to build upon their leadership skills.

SFMS students in Mrs. Rucker's robotics exploratory designed, built, wired and coded spinning signs for storefronts to simulate attracting customers. Way to use those engineering and design skills to successfully accomplish this task 8th graders!

Our 5th grade Agriculture students have been diving into the world of aquaponics! They learned how plants and fish work together in a sustainable growing system. Mrs. Kenan even dug up some pepper plants from her garden, and the class is experimenting by transplanting them into our aquaponics setup to see if they’ll survive and (hopefully!) produce peppers.

Our 5th grade Agricultural Studies students have had some amazing guest speakers recently! Rodney and Brody from Reick’s View Farms stopped by to share their expertise on pig farming — and the highlight for students was definitely getting to pet the pig! 🐖 Then, Linda and Lavonne joined us to teach all about dairy farming and the hard work that goes into producing the milk and dairy products we enjoy every day. 🥛 We’re so thankful to these wonderful experts for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their knowledge and passion with our students!

The fifth graders recently did an activity that combined math and science. They used a scale to convert the distance between the Sun and all of the planets.

The 6th grade students published their first piece of writing for the year. They were able to choose any style of writing. Students then presented their final products to their classmates. By presenting, they are working on their public speaking skills. Students will continue to do this and become more comfortable as the year goes on.

The 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students participated in Battle Of The Homerooms this morning! We walked the Fredericksburg Trail to Staker Field and competed in various events!

The 6th graders went on a field trip today to Fort Atkinson Rendezvous Days today. We learned about the fort history, fur trading, pioneer life, and other very interesting jobs. Mrs. Haught was able to practice axe throwing and Mr. Carpenter was able to shoot off the Anvil! The students represented SFMS very well!

5th grade agricultural studies students learned all about composting! Did you know composting is nature's way of recycling, turning organic waste into valuable, nutrient-rich soil? Our students discovered this firsthand by picking out some red worms from the compost. They learned that these incredible worms can eat twice their body weight in a single day! Any fruit or vegetable can be composted, giving our leftovers a new life.
