Something suspicious is happening in 7th grade…
Our 7th graders are kicking off a Crime Study Argumentative Writing Unit—and it’s all about the evidence. Students will investigate case files, analyze clues, question motives, and piece together what really happened as an investigative team. Their mission? Write a powerful argument to convince a jury of a conviction. Was it an accident… or a crime? The jury (and the teacher) will decide. Stay tuned—this classroom is officially a crime scene.

SFMS 7th Graders conducted a speed and motion lab today. They measured a distance, took turns moving across that distance with three different motions (heel to toe walking, normal walking, and running), and used stopwatches to record the time it took to complete the motions. Then they used both speed and kinetic energy equations to calculate meaningful data to draw conclusions about energy and energy transformations.

7th Grade Science students at SFMS designed their own experiments to test the Laws of Gravity. Designing an experiment is a high-level skill as it requires students to plan, write, organize data tables, identify and isolate variables, hypothesize, calculate averages, form conclusion statements, and much more! Oh, and we can't leave out that students needed to collect materials and run their tests while trying their best to keep all but one variable controlled. 7th graders did an outstanding job doing all of these things and had some fun testing gravity along the way.

SFMS wants to thank Allanda and Ashley from the Luana Savings Bank for teaching a lesson on financial literacy to the Careers and Guidance exploratory classes this past week. Students learned skills in savings, banking, and money management.

2nd Quarter 8th grade robotics class designed, built, wired, coded and then raced automated vehicles for their end of quarter project. While there was a clear winner, all groups did an outstanding job!

7th Grade students in Mrs. Rucker's science class created models and then demonstrated various relationships between the Earth, moon and sun. They modeled lunar phases, seasons, and solar and lunar eclipses. Knowledge and application were shining brightly today in class!

SFMS Student Council organized a food drive during the month of November, resulting in 474 items being donated to our local food pantry. We want to thank all students and families who donated items!
