A HUGE thank you to The Women of Fredericksburg for donating the prize bags for our Reading is Fun Month. Students who brought back the required number of reading slips received this special prize today. The Women of Fredericksburg always put together AWESOME prize bags, and the FES staff appreciates their support. We are so lucky to have this group in our community! We cannot thank you enough!

FES made the reading goal, so 3rd and 4th graders went bowling and K-2 had a hoedown today! We did line dances, had snacks, and socialized with our friends. Thank you to Karen Lienau and Kensie Hammond for making the Cow Pies for our party.

During the month of March, FES will be focusing on the CARING character pillar. For our Caring Project, we want students and staff to bring in spare change that will be donated to the Fredericksburg Food Pantry. To hopefully increase donations and fun, we are adding a little competition to this project. Each Kindergarten through 4th Grade classroom teacher has a container. Students and staff will put their change in the teacher's container of their choice. The teacher who has the most money in his or her container will have to put on red lipstick and kiss a pig at our next assembly!

At the FES Cougar Way Assembly, the teachers put on a skit to go along with the Reading is Fun Month's theme of Saddle Up and Read. In the skit, the Outlaw Cowgirls were taken to town by Sheriff Hammond to learn the importance of reading from Cowboy Schmitz. The skit ended with a HoeDown where the Cougar Cowgirls did a line dance.

Earlier this week, Durant students had the opportunity to meet and participate in a fun, magical, and interactive presentation with an Iowa author, Coach Sloth! Students engaged in an Anti-bullying skit, learned the value of hard work and determination, and the importance of reading! Thank you Coach Sloth for visiting our school and for leaving our students with an important message that "Being a bully is NOT COOL!"
