With just over two months left in the school year, we want to remind our students and families of the importance of consistent attendance. S-F Families and kids do a great job of getting to school - we're up to 97.6% average daily attendance this year compared to 94.9% last year!
Here are some tips:
✅Set a consistent bedtime and morning routine
✅Speak with your kids about what they’re learning in school
✅Have a backup plan for getting to school each day
THANK YOU for prioritizing good attendance and finish the school year strong! 💪

Mrs. Harkrader's kindergarten class has spent this month reading 16 different books in their March Madness tournament. Today was the championship match between The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors and Dragons Love Tacos. After viewing both books our class voted (13-3) that The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors is the Champion!

4 Year-old Preschool Sign-Up for 2025-26
* In our last S-F Parent Update, we asked parents about their preferences for a possible "all-day" 4 year-old preschool program.
* Today, we're asking parents who are wanting to register their students for 4 year-old preschool for the 25-26 school year to fill out this form so we can start looking at numbers & sections (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdaKJdk0hU2xSdEPxJzxdUdN1fdfAyK2B-kGjgGH2UkwJJYUQ/viewform)
* There is a section within the sign-up form to indicate whether full-day or ½ day is your preferred option. Even if you filled out the previous form, please fill out this form to register your student(s) for 4 year-old preschool for next year. Thank you!

This is the last week for Pennies for the Pantry at FES. The silly string is ready to go...which teacher will get sprayed? Will it be Mrs. Boltz? Or maybe Mr. Schmitz? We will find out at our March Cougar Way Assembly next Monday!

The Middle School P.E. students have been actively participating in a variety of activities throughout the year. Recently, we began our archery unit. A special thank you to Matt Crayne of Chickasaw County Conservation for spending the time teaching our students archery safety and skills, along with providing equipment necessary for class. The students are very grateful for the opportunity to participate in this fun activity each year.

Our HS Biology students have been taking part in a variety of activities, including research on different proteins. Students then engaged in a “protein speed dating” activity for Valentine’s Day, looking for similarities and differences between proteins.🔬❤️
In another activity, students simulated how enzymes can speed up reactions, as well as factors that can slow down reactions. They did this by flipping pennies under different conditions.
And, students got the opportunity to extract DNA from a strawberry mixture. They observed that DNA can be seen by the human eye—and it looks similar to snot! 😂

Anatomy students have been learning about the nervous system—and even dissected sheep brains!🔍
Students were responsible for creating their own lab reports, including the procedure they would use to dissect their specimen. They then identified certain structures within the brain based on what they learned in class. Great work!

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Track & Field Store is OPEN! The store closes 3/26/25 so get your order in now!

Good morning everyone,
We will be dismissing students 2 hours early today (Wednesday, March 19th). The wintry mix combined with the high winds is making travel to our north a bit dicey. No PM activities or practices tonight.
Thanks everyone and travel safely.

Durant PE students are having a blast during their dance unit.

In our 1st grade classroom, students have been voting in a March Madness-style bracket for their favorite books! 📚
Each day, Mrs. O'Brien reads two books from the classroom library, and each student gets to vote for their favorite book. The class then counts up the votes, compares the number of votes, and records the results by posting a picture of the winner.
We will see which book is our champion at the end of March! 🏆

Congratulations to Senior Travis Smith for his Individual All-State Speech nominations! 🎉
He was nominated for his Solo Musical Theater piece, "Under the Sea," and for his Poetry piece, "I Don't Belong Here.” He will be performing both at All-State at UNI on Monday, March 31.

Mr. Carpenter's FCS students have been actively developing their culinary skills through hands-on experience in the kitchen. They have measured ingredients to prepare delicious cookies and pancakes, refined their knife skills by dicing onions and ham for omelets, and perfected the technique of making grilled cheese sandwiches.
Beyond cooking, these students also emphasize the importance of cleanliness and teamwork by diligently washing dishes, wiping tables, and sweeping the floor—ensuring a well-maintained and organized kitchen environment.
In addition to their culinary training, the first half of the course focuses on financial literacy. Students learn valuable life skills such as budgeting for major purchases like cars and homes, filling out job applications, crafting resumes, saving and investing money, and developing entrepreneurial expertise.
Through this well-rounded curriculum, Mr. Carpenter’s students are gaining the knowledge and skills necessary for both personal and professional success.
