To the Fayette County Dairy Board: Please know how much your support meant to SF Middle School during our project-based learning unit.

Thanks to your generous donations, our class of 22 students was able to make and serve pizzas for 12 days — likely a couple hundred pizzas in total — all using cheese and dairy products provided through your support. Your kindness and generosity helped create a meaningful hands-on learning experience for our students, and we are truly grateful.

🎓 HIGH SCHOOL BOUND! 🐾 It’s time to say a huge "Good Luck" to our 8th graders as they transition to the high school! We’ve had an incredible time watching this group grow over the last few years at the middle school, and it’s been an absolute blast having them in our hallways. You’ve built a strong foundation here, and we know you’re going to go on to do great things at the next level. We can’t wait to see all you achieve! Good luck, Class of 2030—keep making us proud!

The Homesteading PBL students learned how to turn crystallized honey into delicious whipped (creamed) honey! 🍯 They were amazed to see the transformation and especially enjoyed spreading the sweet honey over sourdough bread.

A big thank you to Mary Wiltgen and Isaac Sedlmayr for donating the delicious local honey for our class to use. We truly appreciate your generosity and support of our students and hands-on learning experiences!

🏆 PUMP & RUN RESULTS ARE IN! 🐾 Our athletes just finished the ultimate test of grit: the Pump & Run Challenge. By combining a 1-mile run with max reps on the bench (65% of body weight) and curls (35% of body weight), these students proved that strength and endurance go hand-in-hand.

A massive shout-out to the entire class! Beyond the lifting and running, we’ve focused heavily on mental toughness this term. True mental toughness isn't found in the first lap or the first rep; it’s built in the moments you decide to keep going when things get uncomfortable. Success isn't just about the numbers on the leaderboard; it’s about the mindset these athletes are taking into their next season. Keep leading the way, Cougars!

Congratulations to our TOP 5:

🥇 Will Pitz

🥈 Brycen Frost

🥉 Levi Miller

4️⃣ Connor Stimson

5️⃣ Theo Johnson

Students at SFMS had an incredible opportunity today to hear from Liam Steege as he shared his personal journey of recovering from an ACL and calf injury. Liam talked about the highs and lows of the recovery process, the hard work that goes into rehabilitation, and the mental toughness it takes to push through adversity.

His message went beyond sports. Liam spoke about perseverance, mindset, discipline, goal setting and learning how to stay positive during difficult moments. Liam is an outstanding role model for our students, and his honesty and encouragement will make a lasting impact on all of these students.

At the end of the presentation, every student was able to raise their hand and say they took something meaningful away from Liam’s story. His visit was a great reminder that resilience, hard work, and a positive mindset can help people overcome even the toughest challenges.

🎸🔥 SFMS ROCK BANDS ARE READY TO ROCK FRIDAY MORNING! 🔥🎸

Get ready for performances from Kurtz’s Minions and The Band Buddies as they take the stage Friday morning!

These students have been working incredibly hard learning songs, rehearsing together, and building confidence as musicians and performers. For many of them, this has also meant learning brand new instruments for the very first time, including guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals! Watching their growth, teamwork, and excitement throughout this process has been amazing.

We also want to give a HUGE shoutout and thank you to Eadie Suhr and Kevin Droe for helping and supporting us as we worked to get this program off the ground. Your time, encouragement, and musical expertise have made such a positive impact on our students and program!

You won’t want to miss this awesome morning of live music and talented student musicians… and who knows, maybe they even have a surprise up their sleeves! 👀🤘🎶

Cinnamon in the air. Flour on the counters. Maple glaze dripping over warm rolls. According to Mr. Schmitt, “these are the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had!” Life is GREAT in Mrs. Kenan and Mrs. Koch's Project Based Learning Homesteading class. Students are discovering that homemade food is about more than following a recipe. It’s teamwork, patience, measuring, mixing, and learning real-life skills along the way. This week, students made homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch and finished them with a sweet maple glaze.
There’s something pretty special about watching students realize they can create something warm, homemade, and delicious with their own two hands. 💛

Huge shoutout to our Cougar Construction Company PBL students for all of their hard work!

Mr. Kurt and Taylor Volker’s students had an awesome opportunity to work alongside Walvatne Floor Covering and learn firsthand how to measure, cut, and lay carpet. Students gained real-world experience while practicing teamwork, problem-solving, and construction skills throughout the project.

The teacher lounge re-vamp project is coming along great, and we can’t wait to show off the final product!

A huge thank you to Walvatne Floor Covering for taking the time to come in and work with our students. Experiences like this make learning meaningful and memorable!

Stop in during our PBL Showcase on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 9:00–11:00 a.m. to check out all the amazing projects our students have been working on!

The Hunter’s Safety PBL class completed the hunt by scoring whitetail deer antlers today. Aside from scoring, they learned about deer genetics and growth depending on age range. Using math and measuring skills, the students successfully came up with an accurate total of inches on their whitetail buck.

Mr. Sorenson's PBL class, Social Media Stars, has been learning what to do and not do on the internet. This week they also have been interviewing other PBL class teachers and students learning what they are doing in those incredible classes. Now they are coming up with some social media posts showing out the wonderful things that everyone is doing. Who knows, maybe they will go viral with their posts!

In Mr. Sorenson's PBL class, Legendary, all of his students have been researching and trying to find the best players that have ever played. Today, in the War Room, we had our inaugural Legendary Baseball Bracket where each and every student came up with their list of the greatest baseball players to make the most elite and legendary team of all-time. After viewing all ten teams, the students voted Grady Leete's Whitewater River Hounds as the best team in the land! Next week we will battle in both basketball and football to see whose team is Legendary!

This week, the Homesteading PBL students made homemade butter using a butter churner and heavy whipping cream. They then used the buttermilk to make pancakes and biscuits completely from scratch. The best part was topping warm pancakes and biscuits with homemade butter and their canned strawberry jam! Students were surprised at how simple and quick everything was to make, and we connected it back to the value of cooking from scratch—knowing exactly what’s in our food and appreciating the quality that comes from real, simple ingredients.
