Sumner-Fredericksburg High School students had the privilege to have a guided tram tour through John Deere Waterloo Works yesterday. Some of the information shared by our guide included the following: Why the change to the current emblem they use (7 in all), the vast countries they do business with, their Gold Key Program, current career opportunities, custom tractor options, John Deere "smart" tools, the different regulations for each country, and 30% of their workforce are women.
This was an unbelievable opportunity for our students, and we can't thank John Deere enough! Cougar Learn! Cougar Caree Opportunity!

For the past couple of weeks, Mrs. Price's Engineering Design Process students and Durant Elementary 4th Grade collaborated on an engineering project. The goal was to create a contraption what would protect a pumpkin from breaking when dropped from the high school stadium bleachers to the cement below. Each high school student in the Engineering Design Process class worked with four 4th Graders. The first task was to get measurements of their pumpkin and then brainstorm ideas. Of their 3 brainstormed ideas, they used a decision matrix to see which of their ideas would be most suitable for their contraption. Then the building of their contraption began. Stay tuned for the teams' pumpkin drops in upcoming posts. Special thanks to Trista Calonder and Jenna Wolfe for their generous pumpkin donations.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg high school students will have the opportunity to step out of the classroom on Wednesday, November 15th, and spend part of their day networking for future career and college opportunities with Tripoli students for the fall Career Fair hosted at Tripoli. It’s never too early to scope out college/career plans or make connections with various community and business leaders!
