Homecoming Pep Assembly - Friday, October 3
Parents,
Durant students will be walking to the high school to attend the pep assembly and parade Friday afternoon. We will be leaving Durant at 12:45 p.m. Our return time to Durant will depend on the length of the assembly and parade. More information about bus routes will be coming soon from our Transportation Director.
Please plan to call our office or send a note for any end of the day transportation changes no later than 10:00 a.m. so we can notify classroom teachers and dismissal staff.
If you plan to pick up your child early that day, please plan to pick them up prior to 12:45 p.m. as we will be at the high school the remainder of the day. Walkers, bikers, and car riders will dismiss at normal times that day.

Wear red, white, & blue and show American pride
TUESDAY
Crazy Day
Wear anything crazy! Backwards, inside out, crazy socks, hair, etc.
WEDNESDAY
Western Wednesday
Dress western with your boots, cowboy hats, flannel, etc.
THURSDAY
Team Day
Wear your clothes that represent a team (NFL/College sports, 4-H, Scouts, etc.)
FRIDAY
Cougar Spirit!
Wear your Cougar gear and show your Cougar Pride!
A few reminders and changes after our first day of dismissal.*
St. John's Church Stop - Due to a large number of students on the Bear Route, we will now be moving the students who get off at the church in the afternoon to the Frog Route. Students will still ride the Bear Route in the morning at this time. We may need to make adjustments as needed once our rider's plans become more consistent.
Morning Drop Off/Afternoon Pick Up at Durant - Thank you for following our procedures to help us get all cars loaded and on their way today in 8 minutes! Just a few reminders:
Please remember that the north side of 5th street is a no parking area. We don't want parents and students to walk between the line of cars that are unloading on the south side of the street.
Please plan to have your child(ren) exit and enter your car from the passenger side so we don't have students walking between cars.
If you need additional car signs for other people who may pick up your child(ren), email Mrs. Larson at larsonj@sfcougars.k12.ia.us. We did make a list Monday and will get those to you Tuesday at dismissal.
Important Traffic Changes at Durant Elementary Starting Monday, May 19th:* Due to the 5th Street bridge replacement (between Polk and Division), 5th Street will be closed until at least the end of October 2025. This will impact Durant Elementary drop-off/pick-up, which will now require parents to approach eastbound on 5th Street and turn north onto Polk after.
***IMPORTANT!*** Please tell your child to stay out of the construction zone on 2nd street. For their safety they need to stay away from that area on their way to the bus stop. Please talk to your child about this, we have already had complaints and just want to keep everyone safe.
