At Sumner-Fredericksburg, we believe that world-class learning happens both inside the traditional classroom and far beyond it. As part of our ongoing commitment to clear communication and transparent connection with our community, we want to share a glimpse into one of the most innovative learning experiences launching in our district this year: No Boundaries Northeast.
Located on the west side of Fredericksburg Elementary, our district will be transforming existing spaces—without any architectural renovations—to reimagine how learning happens. Linked closely with our Future Frontiers charter and high school CAPS vision of connecting to authentic learning, No Boundaries Northeast is a real-world, project-based program that pairs our students directly with local and regional business partners to solve authentic industry challenges. We have 25 Sumner-Fredericksburg 8th grade students beginning in the program this fall, and we can’t wait to see what these students accomplish as they progress through the program this year.
A First-of-Its-Kind Partnership
This month, our team—including educators Mrs. Maher, Mrs. Haught, and Mr. Taylor Volker—established a unique partnership with Premier Furniture, a regional leader supplying modern educational environments across Iowa and the Midwest.
Premier Furniture is evolving its business model to expand beyond traditional showrooms. Instead of relying solely on catalog images, educators across the state look for spaces where they can see, test, and experience modern classroom design firsthand. As part of this new model, Fredericksburg, Iowa will host a state-of-the-art combo classroom/showroom—operated and analyzed directly by Sumner-Fredericksburg students.
High-Impact Skills, Real-World Data
Through No Boundaries, participating students connect their learning beyond the classroom; they will own the learning environment. Student teams on just this project alone could:
Collect & Analyze Real-Time Data: Evaluate ergonomics, functionality, and instructional impact of modern learning tools.
Master Professional Communication: Present findings directly to corporate partners and present at educational conferences across Iowa.
Guide Visiting Educators: Host and present to visiting teachers and administrators from around the region as they explore the Fredericksburg showroom, which will double as the community connected classrooms for No Boundaries Northeast and Future Frontiers.
In this model, community connection is a vital part of the curriculum. Our students will gain essential skills in public speaking, critical thinking, data analytics, and professional collaboration that simply cannot be replicated without authentic connection to the real world.
A Powerful "Value-Add" for Taxpayers
Beyond the extraordinary academic outcomes, this partnership brings immediate, tangible resources back into our school buildings.
Through donation arrangements and steep partner discounts, our district is equipping classrooms with top-tier, commercial-grade furniture without placing a burden on local tax dollars. For example, our team recently hauled a trailer packed with high-end, height-adjustable Wisconsin Bench desks—units equipped with lifetime warranty mechanisms that typically retail for over $1,100 each.
These desks are part of a continuous influx of modern equipment arriving at Sumner-Fredericksburg. Our students get to utilize, test, and learn with top-end furniture that elevates their daily environment, while our taxpayers benefit from significant fiscal savings.

This partnership with Premier Furniture is just one example of the work-based learning initiatives unfolding across our district this school year. Whether we are discussing our school facilities, academic programs, fiscal stewardship, or future-focused initiatives like Future Frontiers, our goal remains simple: to build a solid foundation and a strong future for every student.
